About Me
My name is Joe Keohane
I'm a Chartered Physiotherapist (MISCP, CORU) with over five years post graduate experience.
My experience ranges from being part of a Physiotherapy Unit in a busy teaching hospital, to providing face to face and virtual consultations. I have also worked with an Academy at an English Football League Club.
Prior to starting my physiotherapy career, I completed a Science degree specialising in Neuroscience from University College Dublin.
In addition to middle-distance running, I have played team sports (mostly GAA and Soccer) all of my life.
I am heavily invested in my continuing professional development (CPD) by frequently attending courses and conducting my own research on up to date evidence based practice.

Who can we help?
Our goal is to provide a personalised, evidence based management plan to get you back to doing the things you love. We use a biopsychosocial framework to address all the potential contributors to your pain.

Persistent Pain
This is when your pain or discomfort has been present for a number of months/years. Tissue healing has usually occurred but the pain sensitivity persists.
There may be multiple contributing factors to your pain here and we will work together to acknowledge what might be influencing your pain.
We usually have many options here, but recovery can take time.

Running/Sports Related Injury
Sport demands a lot from our body and makes us deal with multiple and variable loads. Some of which we are prepared for, some unfortunately not.
If you've had an acute or persistent sporting injury (and fracture or ligament/tendon rupture has been ruled out or managed medically), we can help in providing you with a comprehensive plan to prepare you for your activity.
Common conditions here would be tendinopathy, hamstring + adductor injury, bone stress injury and other muscle or musculotendinous injuries.

Musculoskeletal Pain
It is normal to experience pain and discomfort during our busy lives, however, sometimes it gets out of control and becomes burdensome. This is when it helps to speak to a professional.
We provide up to date advice, education and management options for common acute or subacute musculoskeletal pain/injury such as:
Lower Back, Neck, Shoulder, Elbow, Foot, Ankle, Achilles, Knee or Hip pain.

What to expect from a telehealth appointment
Telehealth physiotherapy is a proven safe and effective method for helping people who are experiencing musculoskeletal pain. Most importantly patients who have received care via telehealth report it to be a positive experience.
The principles used for telehealth are the same used in face to face sessions.
We listen, identify the potential contributors to your pain, thus identifying potential routes to self-recovery and self-management, and decide together as to what is the best route to recovery for you.
Self-management means that it may be a few weeks between each physiotherapy session whilst you get to work on the things we have identified as mediators of recovery.
